Birth of MEDWC (2003)
After seven years of inactivity following the first Manyu World Conference (MWC), the second conference finally took place in Mamfe from
December 17-19, 2003. Thanks to the effort and hard work of the following elites in USA and Cameroon who decided not to let the dream fade away. In the
USA, the effort was led by Mr. Victor Tataw, Mr. Simon Etta, Mr. Ebai Tabeh, Dr. David Tambe, Mr. Emmanuel Ekumah, Dr. Alfred Tambe, Mr. Martin Eno, Mr. Cletus Ayuk, Sesekou Joseph Mbu and Ms. Becky Enonchong. In
Cameroon, the main organizers were Dr. Robinson Mbu, Dr. Enow Orock George, Mayor Mary Chu, Late Chief Gabriel Orock Mangieb, Mayor Eyong Ashu and entire staff of Mamfe Rural Council, MOWA and Voice of Manyu. At the conclusion of the two day event, the following resolutions were adopted.
SECOND MANYU WORLD CONFERENCE 17-19 DECEMBER 2003. RESOLUTIONS.
The people of Manyu Division desirous to live in peace and harmony and in the pursuit of sustainable self-reliant Development in line with government policy of poverty alleviation, met in the Mamfe Town Hall from 17-19 December 2003 under the auspices of the Second Manyu World Conference MWC-II.
The conference deliberated and resolved as follows:
- Thanked the organizers of the second Manyu World Conference as a follow – up to the first that held in December 19-22 1996 in Mamfe.
- Noted with a lot of disillusion the conflicts amongst sons and daughters of Manyu, most especially those in the Diaspora and in the USA in Particular.
- Viewed with ambiguity the umbrella structure MECA FOUNDATION created at the first conference and charged with organization of future conferences as one source of the ambiguity and conflict. Therefore decided that the structure be revamped and followed by a constitutional revision.
- Created the MANYU ECONOMIC AND DEVELOPMENT WORLD CONFERENCE MEDWC, to be run by an Executive Council as the umbrella structure to organize World conferences and coordinate economic activities in Manyu. The conference was to do everything possible to reconcile disputing factions of Manyuans at home and abroad.
- Called for an intensification of the HIV/AIDS campaign throughout the entire division and the creation of a screening center for HIV/AIDS in the division.
- Encourage projects that target women and youths, hence welcome the creation of the umbrella women group Efukuyu and prayed that equal emphasis be put on education of the girl child as well as Technical education.
- Enjoined elite of Manyu to build at least one house each in their respective villages and Mamfe Town.
- Called on sons and daughters abroad to initiate projects that would liaise Mamfe town with various cities abroad to attract investments.
- Proposed an organization and diversification of our farming methods snail farming, bee farming, and marketing of citrus fruit products.
- Called for a revival of our rich cultural heritage and development of our Eo tourism.
- Called on government to review its taxation system judged to be detrimental to economic investors in the division.
- Thanked the Manyu Solidarity Foundation MSF and MASU for their effort in contributing towards improvement of the Division in the Academic and Health domains.
- Thanked government and local authorities for the tarring of Mamfe town and prayed this to be extended to other parts of the Division and other road networks that lead into the Division particularly Mamfe “ Kumba, Mamfe-Ekok, and Mamfe-Bamenda roads.
- Created the MANYU 100, a cooperative of Manyu sons and daughters in Cameroon and abroad with shares of at least one million francs each to carry out investments in Manyu division.
